Independent. Experienced. Personal.
At Marshall Opticians, we’ve been proudly caring for the vision of our local communities in Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells since 1984. Founded by Giles Marshall, our practice has grown to become a trusted name in eye care across Powys, known for our clinical excellence, individualised service, and warm, community spirit.

In 2017, experienced optometrist Helen Fowle took over the reins, bringing a fresh energy to the practice while preserving the values we were built on. She has since been joined by fellow optometrist Felicity Gill, forming a passionate, hands-on leadership team that continues to invest in the very best for our patients.
Putting You at the Centre of Your Eyecare
We believe great eye care starts with listening, taking the time to understand your concerns, explain your options, and give you tailored advice that puts your needs first.
We offer comprehensive eye examinations and contact lens consultations for both NHS and private patients, with adult private exams including advanced OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and retinal photography as standard.
At Marshall Opticians, you’re never rushed or passed between staff. All tests are carried out by qualified optometrists, who will explain every step of the process and your results clearly and kindly.

Meet Our team

Helen grew up in New Zealand, where she first qualified as a Librarian before moving to the UK and retraining as an Optometrist.
Helen brings a wealth of experience from both independent practices and hospital settings. She joined SG Marshall Opticians in 2011 and became the proud practice owner in 2017. She holds additional qualifications in Low Vision, Glaucoma, and Medical Retina, with a special interest in Macular Degeneration and Dry Eye.
When not thinking about eyes, Helen loves exploring the beautiful Welsh hills and spending time with her family.

Hi there! I’ve called Builth Wells home for most of my life, with a few adventurous years sprinkled in during my late teens and early twenties.
Since March 2024, I’ve been lucky enough to work as a receptionist and optical assistant at Marshalls. One of my favourite parts of the day is welcoming our wonderful patients and having a friendly chat with them.
I’m also a proud Mum to Emma and Marcus, and I share my home with our adorable black cat, Luna.

Meet Sue! She’s a local resident who started her career as a primary school teacher before discovering her passion for the optometry field.
With many years of experience as an optical assistant, Sue loves connecting with a diverse range of people. One of her favourite parts of the job is helping patients select the perfect frames that fit their style and lifestyle.
You can find Sue at our Llandrindod branch. When she’s not at work, she enjoys an active lifestyle, often walking her three dogs and spending quality time with her family along the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast.

Meet Felicity! She grew up in beautiful Ireland and trained as an optometrist in Cardiff. After gaining valuable experience, she opened her first optical practice in 2011. In 2023, she joined our team as a Director, where she truly enjoys the clinical side of optometry and getting to know her patients personally.
Felicity holds additional qualifications in Low Vision and Glaucoma, and she also works in the hospital, providing care to glaucoma patients.
Outside of work, Felicity is a keen social runner and has enjoyed running in various locations around the world. She stays busy with her two boys and loves spending time outdoors, embracing all the adventures nature has to offer.
